“Develop the player. Build the person. Elevate the game.”
Coach Hughes is the founder of S.E.D.A. Foundation and brings a strong combination of leadership, discipline, basketball knowledge, mentorship, and more than seven years of AAU coaching experience to the organization.
As a U.S. Navy veteran, Coach Hughes understands the importance of discipline, accountability, teamwork, preparation, and leadership. Those principles are reflected in his approach to coaching and player development.
His mission extends beyond developing better basketball players. Through S.E.D.A., Coach Hughes is working to help young athletes become confident, disciplined, responsible young people who understand the importance of education, leadership, character, and hard work.
His goal is to develop the complete player while helping build the person behind the athlete.

Coach Hughes' philosophy goes beyond wins and losses.
His focus is developing skilled, confident, disciplined players who understand the game, compete the right way, support their teammates, accept accountability, and carry those same principles into everyday life.
Basketball provides the platform, but personal development is the larger mission.
Develop basketball fundamentals, basketball IQ, confidence, decision-making, and competitive skills.
Teach preparation, accountability, consistency, effort, and respect.
Help young athletes learn how to communicate, lead by example, support teammates, and respond to adversity.
Develop young people who understand that how they conduct themselves away from basketball is just as important as how they perform on the court.
Service
U.S. Navy veteran
Coach Hughes brings lessons in leadership, teamwork, accountability, discipline, and service from his military background into his work with young athletes.
For Coach Hughes, leadership means setting the standard, serving others, being accountable, and helping the people around you become better.
That same standard is the foundation of S.E.D.A.: sports as the setting, and education, development, and achievement as the work that follows young people past a single season.
Sports.
Education.
Development.
Achievement.
S.E.D.A. Foundation was created around the belief that youth sports can become a powerful platform for education, mentorship, personal development, leadership, and opportunity.
Under Coach Hughes' leadership, the goal is not simply to build successful basketball teams.
The goal is to build an organization where young people can:
Empowering youth through Sports, Education, Development, and Achievement.
“Develop the player. Build the person. Elevate the game.”
Coach Hughes
The S.E.D.A. approach recognizes that every athlete is a young person first. Player development and personal development should work together.
What players can expect
Compete with purpose and give your best effort.
Develop habits that create success.
Take responsibility for your decisions and performance.
Understand that individual success is connected to team success.
Respect teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, family, and yourself.
Be willing to learn, improve, accept coaching, and respond positively to challenges.
Families entrust coaches with an important role in their children's development. S.E.D.A. takes that responsibility seriously.
Our goal is to create an environment where young athletes can compete, learn, develop confidence, receive mentorship, and understand that success requires commitment both on and off the court.
We want parents to know that S.E.D.A. is focused on more than basketball development. Education, character, accountability, leadership, and personal growth are central to the program.
